Steve Hoel
folder
This is an "Interframe" folder. This means the handle's frame is a single piece of metal, which is precisely milled out to accept an inlay of natural material.
Hoel only made a small number of knives, all very high quality inter frame folders, many embellished with engraving and gold inlays by some of the world’s finest artists.
This knife was made in 1982 to raise fund to protect the killing of sheep, a man could only kill one Bighorn Sheep in his lifetime.
The subject of the engraving is the head of a Bighorn Sheep, directly referencing the knife's purpose. The engraving is located on the metal bolsters at both ends of the handle, executed in a highly dimensional relief style, possibly with gold inlays to highlight the horns, rendering the details lifelike.
The knife was marked “ADBOSS-1” and is the only one in existence.
